Boxing returns to NBC in March

Post by TeamJohnPerretti on Sun Jan 04, 2015 1:28 pm

There was a short boxing commercial aired during Saturday’s NBC telecast of the NFL playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers. The spot announced that boxing was coming to the network in March.

It’s well known that manager/advisor Al Haymon and NBC have entered into a multi-fight deal.

I guess the deal is for shows on NBC Sports(cable channel) and NBC(free network tv).

It will be nice to see boxing back on major network tv like NBC again.

Years ago major fights took place on network tv where millions and millions of people watched the shows.

Boxing right now is not on free network tv.

There are average matches on cable (espn and fox sports). Almost all better shows/matches are on premium tv (hbo, showtime) or ppv.

So even if its showcase fights its nice to see boxing back on free network tv. It will be good exposure for the fighters.

Im not a fan of Jay Z and think he's a low class human being. Im kind of excited about his companies entrance into boxing though. It's something different and he will provide competition for the top promoters.

His first show is this Friday night on Fox Sports.
