Style vs style FTW! Ganryujima is the closest thing to the mma I want.

Guy in the red kept pulling out of his combos.....it seemed like an exhibition sparring match ....

It seemed more like acrobatics than a legit fight.

Because it was and nobody is disputing that. However, it was a sparring match, that is, it was not choreographed. I have been in plenty of "My turn, now your turn" sparring matches. Sometimes they look like this when there is nothing on the line.

My point is that MMA started as style vs style and now has changed into its own thing. It has not continued as a testing ground for martial arts. Rather, now the martial arts are more entrenched in their styles and MMA is its own style. I would rather see some legit Gong Fu vs Karate fights (by high level masters, like these two guys) than MMA guy vs MMA guy.

This Shaolin guy, maybe I am missing something, but this is the first time I have seen a Chinese stylist spar. You actually get to see what the wide open arms and hands are for. It's great to see.

I don't think there will be much style vs style at the high levels (with maybe freak shows being the exception).

A guy going in with one skill would likely get destroyed by even lower level competition.

Translation: Royce Gracie will beat everyone.

That is where the rule set comes in.  Garyujima's "No subs" rule allow the martial artists to compete on an even playing field.

The ground guys now have their catch wrestling events and Metamorphosis to work out their systems against each other.  Us stand-up guys need something now.  MMA was taken away from both of us.

I am still waiting for ONE's fighters to realize they are not in the UFC and can just stomp on the BJJ guys.

Style vs style is what got me into mma. I dont see much of martial arts in the zuffa version of the sport. Theres mostly sloppy kickboxing followed by humping and elbowing against the cage and on the ground. Ganryujima or Pride with some fine tuning should be standard for mma.

Ganryujima is not mma....its a striking game....king of the hill featuring kung fu and karate and some randon football player lmao.

It has some cool standup battles but i hate the ring out.

And some of the guys who shouldn't be fighting lol.

Theres grappling but no subs. I saw more great throws than all Ufc events combined the last year so its not striking only. Btw why shouldnt sumo be included? Youre clearly not a sumo fan.

Ok so pure striking. I prefer mma but that sounds cool.

What do you guys think of Shootboxing. Never seen but is supposedly all stand up including stand up subs (no grappling).

In shoot boxing I really like point system you get 2 points for this 3 for this... and than you can not say I think this guy won but jude gave win to other guy you have points and you stick to them.

EXACTLY! MMA should be definitely be scored. [Some professor had a whole system worked out, but it looks like his website fell off the internet.] Wrestling and other combat sports have points. The only reason boxing and MMA don't is so that it is easier to fix.
