GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Rules
- This ranking system includes only fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) or Strikeforce.
- Top level fighters that leave the UFC or Strikeforce may be ranked in subsequent rankings.
- Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC or Strikeforce will be removed from the rankings.
- Fighters that are signed to non-exclusive contracts with Strikeforce, who fight for other MMA promotions (excluding the UFC), may be included in the rankings.
- Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.
- Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.
- A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent after a victory or a loss against a ranked fighter.
- A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division.
- A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.
- If a fighter does not fight for two years he will be removed from the rankings.
- A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.
- A highly ranked fighter can get a high ranking in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight division.
- Champions and fighters from reputable promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.
- Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: a) championship held in a promotion, b) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, c) promotion last fought in.
- Rankings will be updated every month.

GLOBAL-MMA Ranking Update Summary (April 2012)
- Lightweight Jungle Fight champion Francisco Drinaldo was removed from the ranking contenders list after signing with the UFC to compete in The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.

- Top ranked middleweight, Antonio Braga Neto, submitted former WEC and UFC veteran Brock Larson by kneebar in 1 minute 4 seconds of the first round at MMAAD on 04 March 2012. This is Neto’s
second big submission win in recent months as he finished former UFC and current Bellator top ranked middleweight Maiquel Falcao by Kimura in the second round in September.

- Bellator featherweight Ronnie Mann was removed from the rankings after dropping a unanimous decision to previously unranked fighter Mike Corey at Bellator Fighting Championship 60
on 09 March 2012. Mike Corey is now listed with the other contenders in the featherweight rankings.

- The Bellator featherweight title changed hands at Bellator Fighting Championship 60 as
newly crowned champion, Pat Curran, dominated former champion Joe Warren with brutal strikes in the third round putting an end to Warren’s 1 ½ year run as champion. Pat Curran is now ranked number 2 in the world at featherweight behind DREAM champion Hiroyuki Takaya as Joe Warren dropped from the second spot to number 6 in the world.

- Alexander Yakovlev moved slightly up the other contenders list of the rankings after his fight with former M-1 Global welterweight champion Shamil Zavurov was ultimately declared a draw at M-1 Challenge 31.

- Newly crowned M-1 Global welterweight champion, Rashid Magomedov, climbed to number 3 in the GLOBAL-MMA rankings after defeating Yasubey Enomoto for the welterweight strap at M-1 Challenge 31. Enomoto dropped two spots slipping to number 5 in the rankings following the defeat.

- Bellator middleweight tournament semi-finalist, Brian Rogers, is now ranked at number 9 in the GLOBAL-MMA rankings. Rogers won his quarter-final bout against Vitor Vianna with a brutal flying knee in an early contender for Knockout of the Year. Vitor Vianna fell to the other contenders list following the first round KO loss.

- Bellator middleweight, Giva Santana was removed from the rankings after losing a decision to Bruno Santos at Bellator 61. Santos entered the other contenders list following the victory.

- Top ranked fighters; Aleksander Emelianenko, Jeff Monson, Maiquel Falcao, and Vyacheslav
Vasilevsky walked away with victories at M-1 Challenge 31 and Bellator 61 but their ranking status did not change.

- Rick Hawn entered the list of contenders by ousting Bellator lightweight Ricardo Tirloni at Bellator 62 on 24 March 2012. Following the defeat Tirloni was removed from the rankings.

- In an early candidate for Fight of the Year, Lloyd Woodard leaped into the top 5 lightweight rankings with an impressive arm breaking kimura submission against top ranked Patricky Freire at Bellator 62. Pitbull Freire fell four spots in the rankings after the defeat.

- Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal entered the GLOBAL-MMA rankings on 27 March 2012 after being released from contract by Zuffa. “King Mo” is now the second highest ranked light heavyweight fighter in the rankings after number 1 ranked Mousasi. “King Mo” holds a decision victory over Mousasi from a fight two years ago. However, Mousasi has held this number 1 ranking and in order to earn that spot, “King Mo” will have to defeat him once again. Mikhail Zayats was bumped out of the rankings due to the entrance of “King Mo.”

- Yusuke Kawanago entered the rankings after earning the Legend FC featherweight crown by submitting Xian Ji in the second round at Legend Fighting Championship 8 on 30 March 2012.

- Bryan Baker moved down to the welterweight division to take part in the Bellator welterweight tournament. Baker defeated Carlo Alexandre Pereira by split decision at Bellator 63 on 30 March 2012. Baker was removed from the middleweight rankings due to the change in weight class. His performance against Pereira was not enough to land him a slot in the welterweight rankings.

- Fabricio Monteiro entered the welterweight rankings after earning a unanimous decision victory over DEEP welterweight champion Yuya Shirai at ONE FC 3 on 31 March 2012. The DEEP champion fell out of the rankings following the loss.

- Pancrase lightweight champion Koji Oishi was dropped from the rankings after dropping a decision to Isao Kobayashi at Pancrase – Progress Tour 4 on 01 April 2012. Zorobabel Moreira entered the other contenders list of the lightweight rankings based on his submission victory over Felipe Enomoto at ONE FC 3.

- A number of other top ranked fighters won fights in the month of March against fighters ranked lower than them which did not alter their ranking status.

GLOBAL-MMA Top 10 Rankings Promotional Statistics:

1. Bellator - 32 Fighters Ranked in the Top 10
2. M-1 Global - 12
3. DREAM - 12
4. DEEP - 3
5. Free Agents - 2
6. KSW - 2
7. BAMMA - 2

cheers CDF47 for putting these together as always, much appreciated.

my notes:
HW:
Fedor, as much as i want to see it as well, shouldn't be #1 quite yet, top 3 for sure though.
imo Santos should drop some for his failure to compete for the tourney final. being unable to perform and prove your abilities as a competitor (granted it was kind of a sketchy situation) shouldn't roadblock other active fighters in the rankings is all i'm saying.

LHW:
man M'Pumba and Wiuff and Bellator LHW in general fuck these up but it's hard to figure something otherwise. maybe it could be more so
1. Gegard Mousasi (DREAM Champion)
2. Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal (Free Agent)
3. Vinny Magalhaes (M-1 Global Champion)
4. Jan Blachowicz (KSW Champion)
5. Yoshiyuki Nakanishi (DEEP Champion)
6. Travis Wiuff (Bellator)
7. Christian M’Pumbu (Bellator Champion)
8. Jimi Manuwa (BAMMA)
9. Richard Hale (Bellator)
10. D.J. Linderman (Bellator)
just a thought, not really too strong of feelings on this though.

MW: Khalidov should be 2 and Shlemenko should 3.
Meterla should jump to 10 from contenders whil Bruno Santos jumps to 9 while Brian Rogers falls to contenders (it was an OK knockout performed to win his quarterfinal but not enough to jump on the board yet IMO).

WW:
drop Hieron in rankings if you can PLEASE and get Zaromskis on there at 9 or 10!!! not sure how the re-arranging would come about.

LW:
Freire to contenders being replaced by Jadamba at 9, otherwise really good.

FW:
pretty good, only thing i'd argue is maybe swapping Kawajiri with Sandro but i don't care that much.

BW:
get Imanari on that board somehow and please drop Banuelos some rankings if not to contenders.

anyways the rankings boards are pretty damn good CDF47 thanks for your work! and all of this from me are just ideas mostly, what do you guys think?

Amazing work CDF47!

Audax those are all really good suggestions that should be considered for the next rankings but I think Fedor is still #1.

No problem. Thanks Audax.

Great point on Santos. I probably should have dropped him a spot or two for not making weight. If the fighters directly below him; such as Guram, Grabowski, or Malikov win their next fights they will jump past him for sure. If he doesn't fight soon he will also begin to drop for this. If Prindle beats Konrad he will jump to number 2 ahead of Santos.

Great point on Fedor as well. I could see a strong argument to put Konrad ahead of him and have Fedor at number 2. That was a tough choice when I first created these rankings over a year ago. I went with Fedor as number 1 mainly because of his 10 year unbeaten streak but after his three straight losses I do understand that their is reason for him to be ranked at 2 or 3.

Great LHW rankings. If Nakanishi would have beat Manhoef on Saturday I was going to jump him past M'Pumbu since he has a past win against M'Pumbu, holds a DEEP title, and because M'Pumbu is coming off a loss and hasn't fought since. If M'Pumbu does not fight soon or Nakanishi gets a win in his next fight I will move him ahead of M'Pumbu for sure. I would still have Wiuff ahead of Nakanishi if that happen. I agree, the Bellator fight with M'Pumbu and Wiuff screwed things up a bit. I tended to give the champions of the best promotions; such as, Bellator, DREAM, and M-1 a bit of an edge in the rankings which is why I have M'Pumbu so high. The Bellator champs go through a tough tournament and a title shot to earn a belt so they usually get an edge over others.

Yeah, Khalidov could be number 2. He is great but since Shlemenko has gone 12-1 with his only loss to number 1 ranked Lombard by decision and since he went through two tough Bellator tournaments recently, I gave him the nod for number 2.

Brian Rogers is in the top 10 because he defeated previous top 10 Vitor Vianna last month. When fighters defeat top 10 fighters I move them at least somewhat clost to the spot of the fighter they defeated. The same is true for Bruno Santos. He defeated previous top 10 Giva Santana so I moved him to the top ten and dropped Giva. Materla will be fighting for the vacant KSW MW title at KSW 19 next month and if he wins I will move him in the rankings since he will be a champion and I typically give the champions an edge in the rankings.

If Zaromskis wins his upcoming bouts in Bellator I will definitely move him up the rankings. Hieron is ranked high because of his performance in the last Bellator tournament losing only to number 2 ranked Lima. If Hieron loses or is inactive he will drop.

I had Freire at number 5 prior to his defeat by Woodard. Freire was a legit number 5 only losing to number 2 Chandler recently. After that loss I did drop him 4 spots which is pretty significant. I agree that Jadamba should start moving up soon. He has been very impressive and he holds the LFC title.

Comparing Sandro and Kawajiri side by side I give the slight nod to Sandro based on his performances over the years at FW. Kawajiri has been a beast at 145 though so I could see moving him up soon if he continues to get some wins. Hopefully they match him up with Takaya for the DREAM title. He deserves a title shot but I heard they are pretty close.

I have Imanari ranked in the other contenders list at BW. He has recent losses to Banuelos and Tokoro so I placed him one under Tokoro in the list. I couldn't place him above either of them since he just lost to them. Banuelos is ranked high mainly based on his performance in the DREAM BW tournament. He defeated Imanari and Tokoro in the DREAM tournament so I had to rank him above them. His only loss was to number 1 Bibiano in the tournament so I had to list him as the number 2 DREAM BW which ended placing him number 8 overall.

I update these as fighters win or lose or new fighters rise up into the other contenders list. I update the master file on my PC after every event each weekend so these are constantly updated based on fights that occur.

Excellent comments. Some great ideas. Thanks for posting these. I will definitely consider all these comments in the future rankings.

Thanks Johan.

Yeah, he had some really good suggestions. Regarding Fedor, there were similar comments on ranking him number 1 when I was posting these on Sherdog. A couple people felt Fedor should be number 2 while others felt he should be number 1. It is a tough call since he had those 3 straight losses, I could see a point for listing him at number 2. Based on experience and overall career results it is just hard to place Konrad above him. I wish Fedor would fight Konrad to settle that.

Yeah their roster is solid. The tournament format is not perfect and needs some improvements to keep the champs active (which Bjorn is working on) but this shows how quickly tournaments can build new stars. They have also been good at signing real solid prospects which turn out to be great fighters.

I wish DREAM would start holding more than 4 shows a year and start building stars over in Japan.

M-1 seem to be on a good track. They need to just hold on to their champs and star fighters like Vinny and Slava. Hopefully their contracts hold up. Hopefully they can keep Sarnavskiy as well.

ONE FC has only held 3 shows and they seem to be on a good track as well.

Askren really proved that he belongs at #1. I wonder if he´ll be dethroned anytime soon, it must be someone with incredible takedown defense.

Yes, he did. I agree. Either someone with great take down defense and excellent striking that can KO him with one punch power or someone excellent at BJJ (like Fabricio Monteiro from ONE FC) will be needed to dethrone Askren. Not sure if anyone can withstand his take downs. It seems like as soon as he gets his hands on you there is no choice but to hit the floor. I wish he had more powerful, accurate, and effective GNP so he could finish fights and be less boring. He would be a killer if his GNP was top notch because he can seemingly take anyone down and keep them there at will.

I thought Lima might have a chance to catch him with a good punch on the feet to end the fight before getting taken down but that did not happen after 25 minutes of fighting.

It will be tough for anyone to dethrone the GLOBAL-MMA WW king.

I wonder what Rashid Magomedov vs Askren would look like. Probably like Askren vs Lima but it´s a fight I want to see. Make it Rashid vs Askren for the G-MMA strap Very Happy

Absolutely, that would be awesome to see. I think Askren takes that fight but I would love to see it. M-1 WW champ vs. Bellator WW champ would be so bad ass.

Dantas is a beast. New Bellator Bantamweight champ schooled Makovsky and put him to sleep.

Yup. Can't wait until next week's card. Best Bellator card ever.

Top MW Lombard will be removed next month after signing with the UFC. Shlemenko will become the number 1 MW.

As long as Bellator has their champs fight 3 times a year with their increase in tournaments and include their 4 year champions clauses as they have now a champ would have to defend 12 times in 4 years to be pulled away to Zuffa. It won't happen often if they run it this way.

Yeah, that is a bit of a hit but it's going to happen. Fighters will come and go. Shlemenko makes a solid number 1 MW w/ Khalidov right behind him.

May rankings will be the week of May 6th. First Sunday of the month.

Sergei Kharitonov (#3) vs. Tony Lopez (#11) is scheduled for May 26th at Glory World Series.

This should be a sweet fight with two top ranked HWs.

Sick fight!

I've always liked Lopez, really scrappy guy, Kharitonov is a big step up in competition though.
