Shinya Aoki 'RIZIN is lackluster. I don't want to fight for them'

Post by Kinosis on Mon Apr 18, 2016 2:32 pm

RIZIN announced during the intermission that Aoki would be fighting for them at their next event and asked him up to the ring for a comment:

"[Fighting for you guys at the] next event? (laughter). No I haven't heard or agreed to anything about that. Its really uncool that you guys sprung this on me.

Just to give a comment about the fights so far.. its really lackluster. Any promotion where some Olympic medalist (referring to the Yoshida Saori who was the guest commentator) gets the most publicity is really mediocre. I have no intentions of fighting for such a mediocre promotion, so I'll be back when you guys get your stuff together. Good bye."

Aoki isn't very smart if he did say this. Why would you burn bridges with Rizin for no reason? It isn't like he is fighting big names guys in Bellator or the ufc.

Damn brutally honest tho

Rizin needs to step it up imo i kno there is a gp coming and what not but its just kinda lackluster so far.

Hope next event is better, recent one was pretty good but they need to kick it up a notch.

I agree it was lackluster as well, but by wanting him to fight on the next one they are trying to step it up lol.

I think this card was more of a contenders event, trying to get some winners who can go onto the GP.  And they had names on it like Wanderlei and Sakuraba, even if they weren't doing MMA.

This last card should have had Fedor on it, vs Maldonado. It's not like Fedor needs 4 months of training to fight this guy.

I think he was playing the heel role.  He also threw a water bottle at Cruickshank, which ended up hitting Kawajiri in the eye some how, outside the ring, as Kawajiri was commentating, from what I read.  There is video of the bottle throw which bounces off the mat and heads into the audience.

Give it time. I mean, Rizin 1 was the third event for the company. You can't expect them to blow it out of the water everytime. PRIDE 3 wasn't star studded. Plus, as far as people being disappointed that Fedor didn't fight, you can't rely on Fedor in 2016. Sure, it's great to see him fight but you can't depend on him to boost shows in 2016. It's nice to see the PRIDE legends but they also need to build new talent or else people will look at them as PRIDE's retirement home. Also, the landscape has changed. It's not 1997 or 1998 where The UFC was underground and everybody wanted to be in Japan.

Aoki needs to chill out because its not like he's had any big wins lately beating old Sakuraba doesn't and one of the times he did fight a top fighter in Melendez at SF his performance was lackluster,he should be lucky that Rizin is gonna give him a fight against a popular American fighter in Cruickshank that if he were to win this fight would probably put him in the head lines again as a name,I've personally never liked this guy because of his shitty attitude and poor sportmanship I mean its not like he's the no1 lw or something.

I also hear everyone complaining about this Rizin show which on paper didn't really have many big names but as another poster already said the first four Pride shows were not the greatest either
but it takes going through that process of putting together cards with unknowns to determine who is going to be top talent and marketable to get to having a top tier organization people just don't realize this and its really irritating.

I agree give it a few years who knows in 3 or 4 years time they could sell out huge arenas can't automatically have a new org sell out huge arenas straight away the ufc wasn;t always as big as it is now

This must be acting from Aoki to build interest for his upcoming Rizin fight. Why would he even attend the event, enter the ring and all that, if he thinks it´s crap.

^Yeah, it was, I am almost sure. He was playing into his heel role.

e's being his usual troll self (which is what we love him for), though Cruichank is below him as an opponent (no offense to him). My matchmaking:

Cruichank v Guillard
Aoki v Josh Thompson

^Exactly, he is just playing the heel. Thompson or Cruiskshank would be cool. Many other real good ones for Aoki as well; especially with Bellator partnership and other partnerships.

I have to say, Cruiskshank looked awesome under Pride rules.

Aoki vs him would rock.

I agree, his Rizin debut was impressive and an Aoki fight is really interesting.
