How far is MMA becoming it's own FIFA.

Post by CODELMJVG on Fri Jun 24, 2016 11:39 am

We have Rizin FF that has a the vision down to make that happen but the promote that seems far fetch since you got the media bought out from zuffa. MMA is establishing many major fight leagues from around the world.

UFC needs to be put in there place again like when ufc and pride went at it as far as fighter vs fighter bases.

^Yeah, a single worldwide sanctioning body with actual world titles would be cool for the sport

Isn't that exactly what WAMMA tried and failed miserably?

Rizin is very close to the soccer model in terms of a "champions league" where all the winners of other leagues compete for a world title, but the problem is a lot of orgs (Zuffa especially) think it will hurt their fighter's marketability because 7 of the 8 guys in the tournament are going out on a loss. Personally, I think it's a stupid way to market. No one stops going to NFL games because all but 1 team lost in the playoffs the previous year. Until the promoting style outside of Asia changes though, this will continue

WAMMA tried to be a self-proclaimed sanctioning body.  Ali Act would require a sanctioning body.  Not sure if it would work out or not.  Boxing has problems with them but if done right it would be great to have world champs in this sport.

Isn't each state athletic commision a sanctioning body for all practical purposes? Maybe they don't do rankings, mandatory challengers and all of that nonsense, but they do oversee the safety

^Mainly the safety, the refs,... Ali Act sanctioning body would add a new independent sanctioning body for rankings, mandatory fights, titles,...

So essentially the Ali act adds a bunch of middlemen that do rankings ect but ad nothing to safety because the commission do all that? If that's correct then I don't really see why that is necesarry. It doesn't make the shows any better by making sweet tournaments. Honestly, Zuffa fucks up a lot but most of the time the #1 guy does end up getting a title shot because that's what the market decides

^I'd rather see the best fighters fight regardless of promotional affiliation which is why I like the idea of a single international sanctioning body for the sport for rankings and titles.

^Possibly not but it would be ideal if it worked out right.

Somebody explained this to me in another thread and the Ali act would also (assuming they are correct) limit contract length. This would change the face of the free agency market.
