Questions for Jerry Millen interview

Post by Kinosis on Fri Jul 22, 2016 3:40 pm

Hey guys, we are going to do a special question and answer session with Jerry Millen (Senior Vice President Rizin Fighting Federation). If you have any questions for him, post them here. Thanks!

I'll start us out:

Pride was always great at building up new stars and talent. This is something that the ufc has been terrible at doing over the years. Why do you think Nobuyuki Sakakibara and everyone at Rizin, who came from Pride, are so much better at discovering new talent and building up new stars?

Some suggested questions below:

- Who are some potential future opponents for Fedor?

- Would it be possible to get Big Foot to rematch Fedor since I believe his contract is up with UFC?  Sergei Kharitonov and Blagoy are two other really good options.

- Could Rizin work with WWE to get Brock to fight Fedor like UFC was able to work out for UFC 200?

- Can more fights permit elbows in Rizin?  A few fights permit them but would be cool to see them a bit more.

- Is Rizin trying to get ONE FC, WSOF, and M-1 Global in the Rizin Federation?  They seem to be the only notable promotions not working with Rizin.  The partnerships are great already though.

- Dennis Goltsov and Fabio Maldonado would be really good additions to the Rizin Open Weight GP.  Has Rizin looked into signing them?

- Has Rizin asked UFC if they would like to enter a fighter in the upcoming GP?

- How is Rizin scouting Japanese fighters to build into new stars like Pride was so good at?

- How have the relationships and partnerships with the other promoters been going?  It is amazing to see all these promoters come together in Japan to put on these events.

- It's great to see kickboxers like Souwer fighting in MMA in Rizin.  Is Rizin considering signing other elite kickboxers? Rob Van Roosmalen would be one really solid option at 155 lbs based on his Judo background.

- Does Rizin plan on promoting a similar quantity of shows in 2017?  There are 3 events for 2016.

- Will Rizin continue airing events on Fuji TV in Japan?

- Are there any United States television broadcasting plans for the Rizin events in September and December?  If so, will the events be aired live?  Live MMA is always best, possibly with a later tape delayed airing due to the time differences in Japan.

- Does Rizin plan on holding events in other countries?  If so, will the rules need to be modified, for instance, soccer kicks, knees on the ground, and stomps removed?

- Really looking forward to the upcoming Open Weight GP.  MMA has really been missing JMMA.  Excellent job with Rizin!  It is great to have big time MMA back in Japan!

^Dang, awesome questions! How many do you think we should ask him total? I don't want to take advantage of his time. Maybe 20 or so? Also, I guess I'll tell him I will send him the questions in 3 or 4 more days just so he knows when to expect them. I'm sure he is busy. So everyone who wants to ask something, get them on here so I can e-mail them to him. Thanks!

Thanks Kinosis. Yeah, 20 questions sounds like a good number.

To be fair, I can almost answer that question. First is that the UFC at times is too busy making Dana White a star and many have said that Dana White is the biggest star the UFC ever made. Plus, PRIDE doesn't find fighters through an aging reality show and they don't shove a few prospects like Sage Northcutt and Paige VanZant down our throats.

What do you say to critics whether it be fans or the media who still believe the accusations regarding PRIDE & Sakakibara and do you fear that it could hurt Rizin?

Does Rizin plan to make fighter safety a top priority especially since I do fear for fighters like Kazuyuki Fujita?

PRIDE had a reputation of supposedly not drug testing fighters so what is Rizin going to do to prevent having the same accusations?

How will the weight classes be in Rizin? Will it be like the regular weight system or will it be like PRIDE's?

Will any of the fighters like Jiri, Nemkov, etc. that we've already seen eventually be offered contracts?

Thanks guys. We have a lot of good questions. I'm going to try and combine some related ones and narrow them down a bit, to try and limit it to 20 questions since his time is valuable. I'm going to work on that tonight and send them to him tomorrow when I have time.

Did you think that you representing Fedor in his comeback from retirement had any affect on his inability to sign a UFC contract?
