Yup, I'd much rather have 4 stacked cards than 50 crappy cards like the ufc puts on.  Even with 6 a year they could do 3 or 4 big cards and then 2-3 cards solely for building contenders with maybe 1 big name guy on it for the main event.

3 or 4 big cards a year (one every few months or so) does seem like a good number. If they hold 4 cards a year, they could still do the 3 or 4 big cards and that would also work with the 6 events with a couple contender shows.

It's good to hear they are trying to make Spike the home for Rizin.  Hope they can work out either a live broadcasting or a live Spike stream for these events too with them.

^Yeah, for sure. A live show on Spike would be awesome for someone like me who will stay up all night to watch the whole event. It's not like anything else is on in the middle of the night.

Then, if they like, they could go back and edit it down and show it later that day.

And yeah, I like less cards. I know I used to be so excited for the Pride events back in the day. Every card was special. With modern MMA, like in the ufc, I don't even watch most of the events. At most I just watch a fight here or there that I care about.

I agree and I'd be there too. The Sherdog forums were packed for the Rizin shows on NYE watching live streams from Russia.

Yeah, later tape delay always works even with the live broadcast. This has been done before with boxing and MMA.

I know, in the old days I remember waiting and anticipating the shows. I still catch all the big promotions but I can't watch every prelim fight,... I fast forward through some of those and watch the finishes.

UFC must be making good profit with this model though or they probably would have adjusted away from it by now. I thought lesser stacked shows would bring them in more money to prevent over-saturation but they just sold for $4B which was surprising.

It would be interesting to see how much money they put into the ufc. I know they bought it for $2 million or whatever, but they were in debt for a long time putting money into it. Plus they bought Pride, Strikforce, & the WEC. I'm also curious how much money it costs them to put on each event.

I read they went $40M in debt prior to turning a profit after buying the org.  I think PRIDE cost around $40M or so if I remember right.  SF cost about that much too I think.

The cost for their average events were posted before but I'd have to search for it.

I think they have been making around $150M profit per year or so.

The UFC made a fortune on this sale at $4B plus minor shares in the company.

^That's what is crazy to me. Making a net profit of 150M a year, it's going to take a LONG time to even make their 4B back.

Yeah, that's why I just don't get this deal. Doesn't make much sense unless they have some other plan fitting it in with their entertainment conglomerate that I am just not seeing.

PRIDE was the best a building star fighters over any org. I can remember. A number of them were built in their GPs. I'm hoping Rizin can do the same.

A number of people feel that way on here. It is my favorite version as well. I like the others too but PRIDE/Rizin is best.

^Yeah, what I am excited about is they can build new stars to keep me interested. Because the zuffa model is to simply buy other organizations that have better fighters, they really haven't built hardly anyone. So there hasn't been anyone to replace all of the aging legends.

This is really the first time in MMA history where this has happened as I have been watching MMA since ufc 2 or 3 (maybe even ufc 1, I can't remember). Pride and the ufc always kept my interest as new stars came a long and replace the legends from the previous generation...until zuffa came along. I'm excited about not only seeing the legends back in the ring, but seeing new prospects and stars.

Watching a zuffa products feels like watching bum fights. Watching Pride felt like watching a battle of the gods on mount Olympus.

The aging star fighters is a bit of an issue right now. A lot of the older stars/legends will be retiring in the next 5 years. Solid replacements are needed soon.

I want to see Rizin as #1, gm but I don't think 4 shows a year will be enough. Hopefully they do the 6 and do them every 2 months, also have press releases in the off months (maybe announce them at certain orgs shows in exchange for something for those org's).

Since they want fans to help out they can start a street team (like a band or record label).

^I do agree that 4 isn't enough, since 2 of them are always 2 days apart. That leaves a lot of empty space during the year where people aren't talking about, or thinking about, Rizin. With the 2 shows back to back I would be happy with 5 shows a year. One in March, June, September, and then 2 in December.

That way every 3 months there is a show, plus the big double show at the end of the year.
