Manny Pacquiao's next opponent: Jessie Vargas

Post by nodogoshi on Sat Oct 15, 2016 11:22 pm

This is the man Pacquiao will be fighting in his next bout, on November 5th.

First of all, Pacquiao is an absolute legend and one of the absolute best fighters of the past two or so decades (I rate him and Hopkins about at the top of their respective class; their eras overlap; but you can't really do p4p anyhow, too many great fighters).

Pacquiao turned pro in 1995 at 106, one month after his 17th birthday.

He won his first title at flyweight (112 pounds) on December 4, 1998, 2 weeks shy of his 20th birthday, by knocking out reigning WBC champ
Chatchai Sasakul, who was 31-1-1 coming into the fight (to young Pacman's 20-1).

He'd go on to win titles and lineal championships at 122, 126, 130, 135, 140, 147, and (questionably--in a vacant title fight vs disgraced former champ Antonio Margarito) 154.

He's now 37, has been a pro for almost 21 full years, and is stepping up yet again to challenge WBO titles Vargas, a guy 10 years his younger.

Vargas is, moreover, a career welterweight. He stands at 5'10, whereas Pacqiaou is listed at 5'5 and a half.

Vargas has 4 inches of reach on Pacqiou, 71" to Pacqiaou's 67".

Vargas has a record of 27-1, his one loss coming to Timothy Bradley, who's a good fighter and Pacquiao rival (Pacquiao fought Bradley in his last fight, winning a decision; they had 3 fights with Pacman awarded the last two, though the first fight was widely considered a robbery).

This is potentially a high risk fight for Pacquiao, given the sort of opponent.

Here is Vargas' last fight, against former Olympian Sadam Ali.

Vargas will be a tough opponent.

He has size and youth on his side.

Should be a entertaining fight.

I didn't even look at the odds before my last ramble, but Pac is -850 to Vargas plus525, ffs.

That was sort of where I was getting with the post, is that one may consider a bet on Vargas.

With these odds, it's even more worth considering.

I'm going to have to watch some fights to see what I can see.

Pac-Margarito is probably one of those I shall be rewatching, to see how Pac. deals with the height.

Watching Vargas-Ali; Vargas is a tough fighter and a good offensive operator, but he is too open. I think Pacquiao will plug the holes and exploit his defensive flaws. Don't think I'll be playing this time.

Curious about the over/under; different bets (can't find such odds), but it's probably a miss.

I'd rather bet on Ward-Kovalev, which is almost even odds (Ward by decision).

I can't really bet anyway really, I found out Oregon has the strictest online gambling laws in the country. A lot of sites won't even let you register, and it's a bit dicey (they probably wouldn't do shit, but it's apparently a felony to bet online here).

Unless I can make it out to Reno Wink. Or, Vegas?? Wink Wink.

I'm a bit broke, but I can just pay for my trip with my winnings, lol.

Yeah New York is like that too. 5dimes will take you. Just deposit and withdrawal with bitcoin. I use circle.com to buy the bitcoin with a debit card. Dont send directly to the bookies from circle. Use another wallet in between. Blockchain.info has free online wallets. I use electrum.org. I cash out the bitcoin on coinbase but you can cash out on circle.com and have the money sent to a bank account.

debit card --> bitcoin on circle.com ---> send to wallet (electrum/blockchain.info)---> send to 5dimes.

Just reverse that to cash out. Just make sure you never directly go from 5dimes to circle.com

Woh, thanks man. That's a lot of stuff I've wondered about but didn't really know how to learn, and shit.
