ROAD Fighting Championship is excited to announce the first match of Xiaomi ROAD FC 036 which will take place on February 11, 2017 at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea. Former ROAD FC Middleweight Champion will face Kim Nae-Chul for the right to challenge the current champ, Jung Hwan Cha .

Riki Fukuda (23-8, Grabaka) will finally get the chance to get back on the road to redemption and reclaim his belt. Fukuda won the title at ROAD FC 024 on his home turf of Japan with a resounding KO over hot prospect Jeon Uh-Jin. Then in his first title defense on ROAD FC 028, Fukuda spent a round dominating Cha Jung-Hwan, but was caught in the second with a fantastic counter that dropped him to his knees and saw him finished off. The gritty grinder who has become a fan favorite will once again have a chance to work his way back into title contention.

Kim Nae-Chul (West Gym/Team Posse, 6-3) is a constantly improving slugger riding a 4-fight win streak that began with knocking out warhorse Ryota Noji while on his transformation down from light heavyweight. His Fight of the Year contender with Park Jung-Kyo at ROAD FC 033 instantly put him into the title picture.  Kim is a precise and powerful striker with a huge gas tank that makes him the ultimate threat to his next opponent, and a misleading sparse record that shouldn’t be used exclusively to judge his worth.

Xiaomi ROAD FC 036 will host the opening round of the International Trials to seed 5 fighters in the ROAD FC $1 Million Lightweight Tournament: “Road to A-Sol”.  The ten matches for this historic event will be announced soon.

ROAD Fighting Championship announces the first match for the International Trials in the $1 Million Lightweight Tournament “Road to A-Sol”: Legendary MMA veteran Melvin Guillard will face Korean hot prospect Kim Seung-Yeon. Round 1 of the International Trials will take place on February 11, 2017 at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea.

Melvin Guillard (32-16-2-3, Free) is a fighter who needs no introduction to MMA fans. With a record high of eight KOs in the UFC, the WSOF and Bellator veteran has brought an incredible amount of excitement to his performances. Guillard has wins over such notables as Marcus Davis, Gleison Tibau, Jeremy Stephens, Evan Dunham, Ronys Torres and Mac Danzig. He is thinking big with a new phase of his career in ROAD FC, and a massive purse should he take the whole tournament.

Kim Seung-Yeon (2-1, Ssabi MMA) faces a massive task in his fight with Guillard, but the opportunity to be in the $1 Million Tournament brings out the best in him. Kim was a karate champion before training in MMA. His transition took place on South Korea's MMA reality television show “Crying Fist” where he ended up winning the season. His debut pro performances were fast, technical KOs and earned him nominations for both ROAD FC's Rookie of the Year and KO of the Year. Although he lost his recent fight against Bruno Miranda, he's sure to have learned from the experience and will know what he's facing in Guillard.

Are you sure he is still under Bellator contract as well?

There has been no official news of his release.....he's still listed on Wikipedia and bellator.com as an active fighter.

His last fight in Bellator he kod rickels but failed a drug test i think and it was overturned to a no contest bringing him to 0-2-1 in Bellator.

Imo i think they let him go for the big money and gives him a chance to get some wins and hopefully his mind right.

But....

Both bobby brents and tony johnson are still listed on Wikipedia and bellator.com as active fighters. When looking for articles of their release from bellator on
only one article shows up and none of the major mma sites even seem to mention the story.

So yeah lol

ROAD Fighting Championship announces the next match for Round 1 of the International Trials for the $1 Million Lightweight Tournament “Road to A-Sol”: Sasaki Shinji versus Albert Cheng. Round 1 will take place at Xiaomi ROAD FC 036 on February 11, 2017 at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea.

Sasaki Shinji (17-10-3, Burst) is one of Japan's most noted grapplers in MMA who has come to be more feared for his KO power. The former Shooto 70kg Champion has spent over ten years in MMA. Sasaki went undefeated in ROAD FC and earned the title shot against Kwon A-Sol, however, he was knocked out in the first round. Sasaki now begins his journey anew to get another shot at the ROAD FC belt and the huge purse that goes with it.

Albert Cheng (8-3, Evolucao Thai) is a BJJ black belt with a complete MMA game. Cheng launched into the public eye through his appearances in the first ever UFC “TUF: China”. After the UFC he went on a 6-fight win streak including back to back wins in ROAD FC. Cheng is set to be a dominant force as a ROAD FC fighter in the tournament as he makes his way to the title challenge.

Kim Chang-Hyun (17-10, Team MAD) is one of the first generation of Korean Mixed Martial Artists, having competed since 2004 in NeoFight, Gimme 5, and Spirit MC. In 2011 he joined ROAD FC and has fought both Lightweight title contenders Kume Takasuke and Sasaki Shinji. Now after a year away from the cage, “Armbar” is ready to resume his climb up the lightweight division.

Andy Main (11-2-1, Pure MMA/Hybrid Fighter) is the current King of Pancrase at featherweight and a UFC TUF veteran from Season 12. ROAD Fighting Championship announces the next match for Round 1 of the International Trials for the $1 Million Lightweight Tournament “Road to A-Sol”: Shamil Zavurov versus Kim Won-Gi. Round 1 will take place at Xiaomi ROAD FC 036 on February 11, 2017 at the Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea.

Shamil Zavurov (30-5-1, Akhmat Fight Club) is a Russian stand out with a history back to his childhood of winning Sambo and Sanda fights before his transition to MMA.  He is the Octagon Fighting Champion and former M-1 Champion. Well-known for his multi-fight rivalry with Yasubey Enomoto, Zavurov has a notable win over Rodrigo Caporal, and his cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov can often be seen in his corner.

Kim Won-Gi (7-6-1, MMA Story) comes from one of the hottest teams in Korea right now, MMA Story, that counts two ROAD FC Champions in its ranks: Middleweight Champ Cha Jung-Hwan, and 3-time defending Featherweight Champ Choi Mu-Gyeom. Kim is riding a two-fight win streak in Russian promotion MFP, so he's already got a taste of what's coming at him in the opening round of the Trials.

Haven't seen Zavurov in a while. Great addition to the tournament trials. He was a ranked fighter in the G-MMA rankings years ago.

Didn't ROAD FC ditch the ten point must system or something like that?  What's their rule set?

They basically follow the unified rules but the fights are scored with unlimited points where each strike is counted as a point,... Aggression and damage are key criteria.

ROAD Fighting Championship announces the next match for Round 1 of the International Trials for the $1 Million Lightweight Tournament “Road to A-Sol”: Leo Kuntz versus Hong Young-Ki. Round 1 will take place at Xiaomi ROAD FC 036 on February 11, 2017 at the Jangchung Arena in Seoul, South Korea.

Leo Kuntz (17-3-1, American Top Team) is the Impact FC and XFC Champion. He rose to prominence with a stellar record of fight-finishing submissions and KOs which landed him on TUF Season 16 and then into the UFC. Most notable for Korean fans will be his back and forth nail-biter with Bang Tae-Hyun in UFC Seoul in which he lost a contentious split decision. Ironically, Kuntz is half Korean and has a background in Taekwondo.

Hong Young-Ki (3-3, Apgujeong Gym) is a National Taekwondo Champion who transitioned late to MMA. His story made him an instant hit when he competed in Korea's reality MMA TV show “Crying Fist”, which led to his professional career in MMA. Hong recently dropped losses to China's UFC veteran Zheng Lipeng and Japan UFC TUF veteran Hiroto Uesako, however he was implementing new grappling skills and game plans, so surely he will have grown from the experiences.

Anything is better than the 10-point must system. It doesn't fit well with MMA. I like the JMMA way of scoring the fight as a whole.

That's what I've been hoping for or if RIZIN acquires ONE FC.

I think 10 point must was put in place because Boxing commissions were familiar with it and it gave the sport legitimacy (something people were used) when it was still under fire.
