Kung Fu/Tai Chi masters challenging MMA fighter who clobbered their guy

For those of you who wanted to see style v style here we go! He basically wrecked this Tai Chi guy and now the TMA guys want to prove themselves.

Who thinks Kunlun or the like should pick this up?

Yeah, I saw this today. [By the way, Ganryujima held the same kind of fight before with even more hilarious results.] The taiji guy even says afterwards that he lost because he couldn't use deadly techniques to kill the guy.

I don't know much about taiji at all, even though I probably should. I never thought of it as a combat style, nor do I think it is ever practiced as such. Everytime I expressed interest in it, my wife would cringe at the idea and say it's too soft or for old people.

What really is going on not only that these TMAers don't spar, but even if they do, they do so without training their art and it turns into crappy kickboxing. There has to be slow, acclimation and training to use the techniques of the art, before you even spar. Then, once you do spar you will be fighting like Donny Yen. But, like, nobody does this. Taekwondo is the closest to it that I know, where they have step-sparring, but even that is just a drill. You need to do a kind of slow-motion, unrehearsed, sparring first and gradually build up the speed and power. Only then, can you actually use the blocks and such in a real match. There. I just gave away my training secrets to you all. But I guess I don't really care. More martial artists need to know this, so the arts can actually be used like they should.

I'd like to see an MMA org. put on these fights, be it Kunlun or some other org. I'd definitely watch.

Just as long as they do a more TMAer vs TMAer thing, than TMAer vs combat sports practitioner. I mean, of course the guy who trains for matches is going to win against the guy who does not train for matches.

That sounds about right. TMA vs. MMA won't usually last too long. Early MMA showed that.

TMA vs TMA fights under MMA rules turn into awful MMA fights, watch old UFC. They shot a few leg kicks and 30sec later they are on the ground not knowing what to do. In UFC 2 even Pat Smith who was a good kickboxer and a pro boxing journeyman guillotined 2 karatekas and g'n'p one kung-fu guy just after a few months of ground fighting training.

I also hate the anti-sport snobbery in TMA and military based MA, just because they train to kick nuts, they think they are killing machines but any krav maga black belt would be destroyed by a low level MMA fighter in a vale tudo fight.

That's true, I saw all the early UFCs, been watching since UFC 2.  The TMA fighters looked pretty bad in there.

Did any of you ever watch the Absolute FC 32 man tourney from 1995?? They put on some good early NHB fights. I think the fighters were better & tougher than those in the early UFC days. Watch & see.

I never seen that one. I watched a lot of early MMA from UFC and other orgs. I'll have to see if I can find this.

I'm looking for an old school russian or ukrainian NHB event from the 90s. They were fighting in a large circular yellow mat and the name was something like "Universal warrior".

Edit: found it https://youtu.be/CPYxzdGORCA

Thanks for posting. I may have seen some of these fights on an old school MMA VHS tape I have. Good stuff.

If you read through it they are claiming MMA guy went into hiding because he i's being threatened by TMA guys.

I've been hearing this too. The Jack Ma offered Chinese TMAers millions if the beat this guy.

Although, him hiding is more about some statements he made, from I what heard, haven't watched his interview yet. I think it was something about him talking about fixed/easy fights against white people in Chinese combat sports.

I don't know. If I was him, I'd be taking up every challenge match offered. But, that's just me though.

Another thing about these two: Both of them suck. The MMA guy doesn't even have a tapology page and it is unlikely he has ever had a real match, as he is self-taught. The taiji guy has been found to lose at even taiji competitions. So, yeah.
