Soccer kicks gotta go... Let's get real!

Post by Dagwood on Mon Jun 25, 2012 8:26 am

This shit is ridiculous. As if repeated blows to the head with gloves on didn't do enough long-term brain damage.

Kicking someone in the head full bore while they are on the ground is considered a death blow in the darker side of the martial arts. IMO - This is just a much of a kill-type technique as trying to crush the larynx or even worse of a damaging technique than biting or eye gouging.

This shit has gotta go where ever the sport of "Mixed Martial Arts" is fought and with every organization in it, period. Unless your a 13 year old first-person shooter game addicted soon-to-be mass murder that is. '

What mother or father would want to let their child pursue their dreams in MMA after seeing Roger Huerta get his cranium caved in? How many more of those will it take to assuredly kill someone or case major brain damage. This is in NO way good for the sport long-term.

I feel there's a huge difference between a soccer kick to the head while laying on the ground and a head kick to an upright opponent. A downed fighter has much less ability to defend vs the soccer kick. It's a lot harder to escape an attacking fighter's kicking range while on your back. Then there's the kicking power difference and that it's much easier to lose sight of your opponent when you're in a prone position on the mat.

Thoughts???

Cumulative strikes to the head is more dangerous than one big shot.

That's not a defense for soccer kicks, but more so a plea for a reality-based understanding.

Getting hit with a tremendous soccer kick is like being in a bad car accident. I'm not endorsing this.

But, we are all going to hell anyway for following sports like boxing, just as well, and a prolonged beating with padded gloves on is what produces the most deaths.

i like them, i want them to be allowed in every mma company, thats the reason wrestlers have become so dominant, you cannot strike them while they are trying to take the strikers down...

I'm all for them, whats the difference between kicking someone in the head standing or when their on the ground? except maybe its easier to defend the kick on the ground. definitely helps keep wrestlers from shooting and leads to finishes.

So many fights I see would've been over if the guy didn't have to awkwardly try to punch a guy while hes on the ground. Nog/Mir for example. Knees should be legal too, Its like taking away half of someones offensive moves, kinda like outlawing Passing would be in football. If anything should be illegal it should be elbows because they cut and lead to boring top control and guiollitines because they're gay.

To the head might be brutal to see, maybe if they want they can let it to the body. Just because someone puts their hands on the ground you can't do anything is a little cheap IMO. So far the judges make a good decision on stopping right away, like it happened on Huerta fight.

On re-reading my post, I agree with Dagwood.

The flaws of boxing don't justify soccer kicks.

But, I still love boxing. And that's why I'm going to hell.

To note, there is also a pro-Pride bias which affects my views on this subject.

I think it's just been so long since we've seen a KO by soccer kick in present day MMA that it may have been less shocking than you're perceiving it.

The last one I can remember was an illegal kick in Bellator late last year and I remember it being awesome. Herbert Goodman vs. Jonas Billstein at Bellator 58.

stomps are more brutal, but kicks to the head are nice, and knees are better, if you allow elbows you have to allow kicks and knees in the ground

The rule by which guys can place a knee or a hand on the ground and be exempt from kicks or knees is one of the things I hate most about contemporary MMA.

Anything to counteract this I support.
