How many soccer kicks did Wanderlei get hit with? What about Minotauro? Liddel?
Sakuraba did get a vicious beat down via soccer/stomps to a downed opponent a few times, it's true.
But mostly it was punches to a downed opponent combined with fighting way above his weight and past
his prime.
Goodrige suffering from dementia is terrible, but I don't see how it helps him or others to misdiagnose the
problem. He did not get hit with that many soccer kicks/stomps in his 38 kickboxing fights, I don't think.StillWill wrote:easy to say as a spectator when your health and wellbeing being arent on the line
I can say the same thing to us boxing fans.
Boxing, the sport where you can only get punched in the head and the body. But really, mostly the head.
For 36 minutes.
Ask any doctor if this is good for your health

I asked him and he said it wasn't good for my health.
He said to try this instead:

If that didn't work he said he would have to put me on something serious:
(Gonzaga ko's Crocop gif that I don't have the heart to post)
This post would work if someone was advocating eye gouging or attacks to the spine. No one is.

I'm dissapointed in yous lol.
Whatever , to each their own , atleast I find the beauty in them , it takes someone who appreciates the "chaining" of combat arts to appreciate soccer kicks. All i know is that "Kick oriented" martial artists didn't deserve to have one of their weapons removed , wrestlers have thrived more ever since. Is that fair?
I am with you 100 percent in all these posts. Soccer kicks are great in MMA. At least in Asian MMA they are a must.
Unified Rules are cool in the U.S., Europe,..., in Asia it's PRIDE Rules or Full Rules.

Good point. This was one of the more brutal soccer kicks I have seen.
Yup. Huerta was out on his feet for a good minute and Zoro was forced to throw the kick and turn out his lights. Shimada was always a horrible referee and should be blamed.

Yeah, he was pretty much out of it when he was kicked. It was a brutal soccer kick.

Re: Soccer kicks gotta go... Let's get real!
I gotta say, I completely disagree with the distinction of soccer kicks are OK for Asian MMA, as an exclusive principle.
They either are OK or they aren't.
The only logical argument I can see in this respect is the fact that blood is often not okay for Asian (I should say Japanese) audiences, and so if you juxtapose elbows to soccer kicks and stomps, the latter come out ahead. I only know about Japan really, but I would say that South East Asia likely also provides some different perspectives (based on the culture of Muay Thai, etc.).
I understand desiring to have soccer kicks though, and for this reason hoping that they remain in play in Asia. It just sort of seems like it could be potentially bigotry to distinguish between Asia and other places with respect to the acceptability of soccer kicks, is all I'm saying.

Is it safe to partially blame the cage(anybody beyond Dangs that is)? Aesthetically: the cage makes it seem more inhumane being there's a barrier between the entertainers/fighters and the spectators. It feels as if it creates a sort of disconnect between the way the mind differentiates combat and entertainment.

Re: Soccer kicks gotta go... Let's get real!
I am fine with both soccer kicks & stomps, Pride rules basically.
These are combat sports, so some brutality is to be expected.
In any case hard punches are just as dangerous. To my knowledge there have been no deaths in Japanese MMA but there have been deaths outside, mostly under the unified rules.
Every year there are deaths in Boxing and those are from punches. MMA under Pride rules is still safer than Boxing.
Bad refereeing should not be an excuse to disallow moves. There have been plenty of fights where the ref stopped the fight way too late after many excess punches, does that mean punches should be banned?
Plus I am sick of seeing butt scooters sit on the ground, absolutely hate that tactic along with taking a knee or hand to the ground to stop kicks and knees.
Defense against soccer kicks & stomps can be learnt if you are fighting under those rules, just watch how Lil Nog nullifies Shogun's stomp attempts in their fight.
The Huerta KO was more a case of a bad call by the ref.
