Global-MMA Ranking Update Summary (September 2013)

Mike Russow: Mike Russow has not signed with a new fight promotion since being released from the UFC so he was removed from the heavyweight rankings on 04 August 2013.  Rolles Gracie returned to the rankings following the removal of Russow.

Roger Gracie: Roger Gracie was added to the middleweight contenders list after being released by the UFC as reported on 05 August 2013.  Vitor Vianna was dropped from the rankings following the addition of Gracie.

Lewis Gonzales: Lewis Gonzales earned a unanimous technical decision win over Antonio McKee at WSOF 4 on 10 August 2013.  The victory earned Gonzales a spot in the lightweight contenders list.  Following the fight, Antonio McKee announced his retirement from MMA so he was removed from the rankings.

Marlon Moraes: Marlon Moraes battered Brandon Hempleman for three straight rounds at WSOF 4 to earn a unanimous decision win.  Moraes remained ranked at number 2 in the bantamweight division.

Vyacheslav Vasilevsky “Slava”: Vyacheslav Vasilevsky “Slava” finished King of the Cage light heavyweight champion, Trevor Prangley, with relentless ground-and-pound strikes at League S-70 on 17 August 2013.  “Slava” remains ranked at number 6, just below Maiquel Falcao, due to Falcao’s recent win over the Russian fighter in Bellator.

Chaban Ka: Undefeated Polish heavyweight, Marcin Tybura, stepped in as an alternate into the M-1 Global heavyweight grand prix at M-1 Challenge 41 on 21 August 2013.  Tybura finished heavyweight contender Chaban Ka with ground-and-pound strikes in the first round.  Tybura will move on to the heavyweight grand prix finals where he will meet number 2 ranked heavyweight Konstantin Gluhov for the grand prix title.  Ka dropped out of the rankings following the defeat.  The victory was not enough to earn Tybura a spot in the Global-MMA heavyweight rankings as Peter Graham stepped into the contenders list ahead of him.

Marat Gafurov: Marat Gafurov defeated Yuri Ivlev by second round TKO to retain his M-1 Global featherweight title at M-1 Challenge 41.  Gafurov moved up one spot in the featherweight contenders list with the victory.

Kazuhiro Nakamura: DEEP middleweight champion, Kazuhiro Nakamura, finished Henry Miller at DEEP 63 Impact on 25 August 2013.  The victory over the un-touted Miller did not affect Nakamura’s ranking.

Cheick Kongo: Cheick Kongo signed a contract with Bellator MMA as reported on 28 August 2013.  The UFC veteran heavyweight contender was placed at number 9 in the Global-MMA heavyweight rankings.  Peter Graham will not enter the rankings due to the addition of Kongo.

Global-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC will be removed from the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division except under certain rare circumstances where the number two ranked fighter clearly deserves to move into the number one ranking position.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent in the rankings after a victory or a loss.

* A fighter can move up a maximum of three spots with impressive victories over a fighter ranked below him; however, there is no limit if the fighter earned a title or a tournament championship with the victory.

* An unranked newly crowned champion who earned a title in a major league MMA promotion can enter the top ten even with a victory over an unranked fighter.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*A top ten ranked fighter can become ranked in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight class.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*Champions and fighters from prominent promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.

*A fighter will be removed from the rankings if he does not fight for two years.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Tybura will soon enter the top 10, if not this year I think he will next year. He´s the fighter who surprised me the most among the heavies.

He did look impressive.  Wouldn't be surprised if he was fighting for the M-1 belt soon.

A win over Cro Cop could possibly get him back up there.

If he beats Cro Cop, I'd like to see him back in M-1 to take on some of there new HWs.  M-1 has one of the best HW divisions outside UFC and I'd like to see Aleks back there.

Colossa beat Boku so it was a rankings fight.

BAMMA is also on today.  So between yesterday and today we got ONE FC, Bellator, BAMMA, and WSOF with ranking fights.  Great weekend for MMA.

Shooto BW champ Kyoji Horiguchi signed with the UFC and has a BW fight lined up.  He will be dropped from the rankings next month.
