Global-MMA Ranking Rules

*This ranking system includes fighters that are not under exclusive contract to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

*Top level fighters that leave the UFC may be ranked in subsequent rankings.

*Fighters that sign exclusively to the UFC will be removed from the rankings.

*Rankings are based on a fighter's overall career results and recent performance.

*A fighter will be ranked number one if he defeats the number one ranked fighter in the weight division except under certain rare circumstances where the number two ranked fighter clearly deserves to move into the number one ranking position.

*Victories over highly ranked fighters and losses against non-ranked opponents have a larger effect on the fighters ranking position.

*A fighter will not necessarily take the place of his opponent in the rankings after a victory or a loss.

* A fighter can move up a maximum of three spots with impressive victories over a fighter ranked below him; however, there is no limit if the fighter earned a title or a tournament championship with the victory.

* An unranked newly crowned champion who earned a title in a major league MMA promotion can enter the top ten even with a victory over an unranked fighter.

*A fighter will drop in the rankings if he does not fight regularly against high level competition.

*A top ten ranked fighter can become ranked in another weight division after one or more wins in his new weight class.

*A fighter can be ranked in two different weight divisions.

*Champions and fighters from prominent promotions will have an advantage over champions and fighters from promotions with lesser competition.

*A fighter will be removed from the rankings if he does not fight for two years.

*Fighters that are signed to multiple promotions will have their promotions listed based on the following criteria: 1) championship held in a promotion, 2) predominant promotion the fighter fights in, 3) promotion
last fought in.

*Rankings will be updated every month.

Wow so now Straus goes down to #4 for losing to #1 Curran at the last min in a fight he had in the bag? Pitbull has more top 15 wins & beat Georgi yet is still behind him?! Vegh loses a close fight to #1 Newton & goes behind Nakanishi?? So basically even if you had a close fight with #1 you will go down 2 spots behind inactive fighters?? Those parts of the rankings make no sense! Well at least the other divisions look legit.

There are fighters fighting solid competition in all the orgs. listed.  When someone loses, their stock usually drops a bit.  Sometimes they drop 1 spot, sometimes 2 spots, and sometimes they hold their position.  Usually if they lose to someone above them, they will stay put if they have a win against the fighter directly below them.

New number 1 contender for the belt in Bellator is Pitbull and Pitbull has a past win over Straus so he is above him. Georgi beat Takaya who was number 1 FW at the time not long ago, has gone undefeated since, and holds the WSOF belt. He too is above Straus.

Rampage and Mo are the new top contenders in Bellator for the title shot and Vegh is coming off a loss where Page and Mo are in the tournament finals coming off big wins so they are above Vegh. Nakanishi has been DEEP champ for a while but is in a different league. This is the only argument I could see is Vegh being above Nakanishi. If Nakanishi loses his title fight this month, Vegh will move back above him.

Ok I can see the other points you make but the Takaya reason has been said like 5x to me & it would make more sense if he was top 5 now but he's not even top 10. C'mon FW is Bellator's toughest division & Georgi himself didn't last in it. It's dum for Georgi to get away with crushing lesser foes while Pitbull faces much better fighters & he's more active. Not to mention... HE BEAT GEORGI!! If 2 fighters fight the winner is better not the loser! But I give up you think a win over Takaya (who hasn't won a fight since 2011) is better than anything Pitbull did since.

The reason Takaya keeps coming up is because he was number 1 when Georgi beat him which skyrocketed Georgi near the top. Like when Lesnar beat number 2 HW Randy Couture, he jumped to number 2 in the world with a 3-1 record and he held the UFC belt. He even jumped over Mir who recently beat him. Beating the top guys are a main factor in rankings. Like when Serra beat GSP, he jumped to number 1 in the world at WW. It's just how combat sports rankings work. Georgi has not lost in 3 years and he is 9-0 during that time with 6 finishes against solid competition including the former number 1 FW just over a year ago. Pitbull is 6-1 over that time with 4 finishes which is also very impressive. If Pitbull wins his upcoming fight he will jump over Georgi.

Fighters jump over fighters that beat them all the time in the UFC and every other MMA org. and every other combat sport. When a fighter defeats someone ranked over the guy that beat them in the past, they usually pass them up in the rankings.

Lol Georgi has beat no one of note compared to Pitbull I don't see why you have to follow that silly rankings rule. I bet you no other rankings have Georgi ahead of Pitbull but ok the rankings are yours so your silly ranking rules & opinions matter more than all the facts. But good job with the rankings though they are awesome overall.

It is an important rule, that is why.  It is common in all ranking systems for combat sports dating back forever.  When someone beats the top guy they move up to the top and if not the top, at least top 2 or 3.

Again, shouldn't be long until Pitbull is fighting for the Bellator belt where he will have a chance for the top spot if he can beat Curran this time.

I agree with NorthWestMex, the top 3 in Bellator are all above Karakhanyan right now IMO.

1. Curran
2. Straus
3. Freire
4. Karakhanyan

Kind of an old gripe of mine revisited, I think Kharitonov is ranked a bit too high for HW at the moment. He'd be better at #5 or #6.

Any important fights for the lowest weights in April?

Nothing at all for this month, really. Maybe some movement in the watchlist, but that's about it. Shooto might be continuing their Strawweight Contender League, but I could be confusing that with next month.

He will probably be top 5 next month.

I had Lima at 2 but after Palhares took out Pierce in the UFC and then Carl for the WSOF title both by 1st round leg lock subs, I think the 2nd spot is justified.

Thanks Audax.
